Rebuild the Boondocks Boardwalk...

Updated: Jul 17, 2020 Short URL: gonj.me/boon2015

In 2009, we learned about one of the nicest parks in Central New Jersey called Lord Stirling Park. Though the park is somewhat small, we found the miles of walking trails and boardwalks really blew us away. The diverse widlife, beautiful boardwalks, well-maintained trails, and all the great employees within the Environmental Education Center really allowed us to fall in love with this park.

A few years back, NJ was hit by a few large storms. These storms took a toll on many locations around the state, and Lord Stirling was not spared. A beautiful boardwalk section of Lord Stirling (called the Boondocks Boardwalk) was damaged, and had to be closed to the public. Very sad, and a loss for this park.

Fund My Park -- You Can Help!

In September, 2015, the Somerset County Parks has launched a campaign, asking for funding from the public to fix this section of the park. This is what they have to say:

When hurricanes Irene and Sandy swept through the Mid-Atlantic region, one of the most beloved and biologically rich stretches along the 9-mile trail system at Lord Stirling Park was severely damaged. Known as the Boondocks Boardwalk, this 900-foot section of board-walked trail has since been closed to the public.

We have heard from many in Basking Ridge and nearby communities that they would like to see us repair this treasured section of trail on the western edge of the Great Swamp in New Jersey.

Through the National Recreation and Park Association, we will be launching a 30-day crowdfunding campaign to raise $45,000 for the materials needed to repair the Boondocks. The campaign launches on August 25, 2015.

Please consider giving back to the park, either now, or anytime in the future. This is going to be a long process, and any bit will help! Lord Stirling / EEC is a great park, and they need your help to rebuild the Bookdocks!
