Each month, we try to visit many new locations and meet all types of new groups. We also do our best to add new content to the site, including new locations, groups and photo galleries. By sharing them here, we hope that you find a few new places to go explore yourself!
Each Labor Day weekend, Historic Allaire Village (Monmouth County) for the Jazz It Up Wine Festival . The beautiful village is the perfect setting for a very fun concert and wine tasting event. Fun times were had by all!
To view our photos from this day, please visit the following photo gallery: Wine Festival and a Short Walk in Allaire Village
Our legs needed a challenge, and we headed to the Sourland Mountain Preserve (Somerset County). We polished off a 6 mile loop, over many hours (I take lots of photos, coming soon), was one of the best we have been on in Months. If you have not visited here, you should this fall!
Now hiking is great... but taking a scenic train ride is sometimes a little better :) We had this adventure at the Black River and Western Railroad. The non-profit group takes city folk (or anyone really) on a nice trip between Ringoes and Flemington. It was a fun and beautiful ride, and we can not wait to promote some of their great fall events this season!
When visiting this location, we took a lot of photos. Enough that we were to put together a few photo galleries... Flemington Station, Ringoes Station and a Scenic Ride on the Black River and Western Railroad. We also put together a video of the day. That can be found on YouTube .
Next up was a walk in Double Trouble State Park (Ocean County). We explored about 5 miles through this pine forest, meeting a lot of great people, and taking lots of photos (that you may see next month). This isn't the most challenging of walks, but it is beautiful and simply a lot of fun.
Central NJ seemed to be a big theme this month, because we headed to the Manasquan Reservoir for a bike ride. We did 2 laps on this packed gravel path, and want to go back VERY soon!
A "first" took place this month... we did a 5k! Ok Ok.. we walked it. But we still did it and finished :) The specific event was the 9/11 Heroes Run for The Travis Manion Foundation . This is a great group doing some really special things around the country, and we are proud to support them. We hope to help promote all their events on GetOutsideNJ soon.
Later in the month, we had a few appointments to take care of in PA and stopped into the Stroudsmoor Country Inn (stroudsmoor.com ). This beautiful location doesn't offer biking or hiking, but it serves as the perfect location for special events. You may learn more about this next spring :)
After Stroudsmoor, we headed back into NJ, taking a photo of one of the most blue skies we had ever seen over the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Did you see the photo that was shared on our FB page? If not... go take a look ! :)
With family up from Florida, we wanted to "stay local" and explore a few places nearby. Our first stop was a walk around the Manasquan River Wildlife Management Area (Monmouth County). This quickly turned into heading the the Brick Reservoir (Ocean County) after realizing that hunting had started in the MRWMA, and we wanted to give them their space :) But hey.. the Reservoir is great too! The 1.6 mile, packed gravel trail is a very fun walk.
As mentioned, we try to add content to our site each month. This month, we have added the following:
