Trail Work in Allaire State Park - Sandy Cleanup

Updated: Dec 9, 2012 Short URL: http://gonj.me/3053ps
The trails within Allaire State Park have been closed by the state since Superstorm Sandy rolled through. Though many people feel they can just go in, the trails are simply not safe. This past weekend a group of 26+ people worked for 2 days directly with 2 park rangers to clear out the primary roads in the park. once they are cleared out, the park may be opened again! These pictures are from Sat morning. I worked directly with the park ranger and a few other ATUG / JORBA volunteers to clear out the main access road going from Hospital Rd to the sand pits. It was tough work, and many large trees had to be left behind (for now). After these pictures were taken on Sat, the rangers came back in the afternoon with heavy equipment to clear out all the trails left behind. On Sunday, they cleared out even more trees. Allaire is almost ready to open up again!
